WALES NATIONAL POOL, SWANSEA
Client: University of Wales, Swansea and the City and County of Swansea Council with SportLot Sportlot Grant: c£8.6m Value: c£11m Completed: Febraury 2003 |
|
A strategic decision by SportLot to invite bids and to back a new 50m Pool and Swimming Centre of Excellence for Wales led to the new Wales National 50m Pool, sited on a dramatic plateau at Swansea University, overlooking Swansea Bay.
An exciting partnership to develop the scheme has been formed between the University of Wales Swansea and the City and County of Swansea Council, supported by a major Lottery Grant from SportLot. The 8-lane, 50m International competition standard Pool is divisible by a submersible boom at 25m, with a movable floor over the remaining area. This, alongside a 25m, 4-lane warm-up Pool, provides maximum flexibility of use. Spectator provision for 900 people is included, creating a major, national competition venue.
New land based facilities complement those already available in the adjacent University Sports Centre, providing a high quality environment for top quality swimmers. Several of the Governing Bodies of Sport will base themselves at the Pool, including The Welsh ASA, the ASFGB, and the British Triathlon Association. |
