EASTWOOD SWIMMING POOL AT EASTWOOD RECREATION CENTRE, GLASGOW

Client: East Renfrewshire District Council
Value: c£2.5m
Completed: 1995

Following a successful Feasibility Study, we were commissioned in April 1992 to carry out the transformation/ leisurisation of Eastwood's existing 1970's Swimming Pool. This was carried out in two phases. The first phase included the refurbishment of existing swimming facilities, comprising of 25m Pool and Learner Pool and the extension of the Pool Hall, creating a completely new image to the Centre, both internally and externally.

Existing, outmoded, segregated changing facilities were gutted and transformed into a modern, single, unisex Changing Village bursting out onto the poolside. The Learner Pool was extended and modified to include multi-level leisure water features, spa pool, water guns, waterfalls and slides, while retaining its use at a 'flick of a switch' for teaching.

In the second phase a new, self-contained, wet and dry Health Suite was created at first floor, including a Studio and Steam and Sauna Rooms, which is linked to the swimming pools via a spiral stair to the pool Changing Village below, affording operational flexibility in use.
