In the late 1990's Limbrick Limited was approached by the Rank Group to investigate the feasibility of redeveloping a prominent site on the approach to Newcastle city centre. The brief was for the relocation of the license from the existing casino to create a 'new generation' casino. Working closely with Grosvenor Casinos, a new concept was developed for the casino which sought, under the confines of the existing Gaming Act, to change the misconception that casinos are dark, smoke filled places, with flock wall paper. The transformation has made casino use a mainstream leisure activity. The interior design of Newcastle Casino is light, open and airy. Accommodation is on two levels, with a cocktail bar and restaurant at first floor level, looking over the main gaming area, slots lounge, feature bar and bar lounge. The use of contemporary materials, clean lines, bold colours and dramatic lighting add to the modern feel of the interior, which has been described as 'more Conran than Monte Carlo'. Externally, the building offers a unique transparency where the solidity of the curved masonry facade to Blenheim Street gives way to sheer, full height curtain walling, providing dramatic views of the 70 seat restaurant and reception areas within. Newcastle Casino was successfully received and subsequently, the 'new generation' casino concept has been used across the Grosvenor Casinos estate and projects have been successfully completed in:
- Walsall
- Reading
- Birmingham
- Brighton
- Blackpool
- Huddersfield
Further casinos are planned for:
- Plymouth
- Portsmouth
- Cardiff
With an excellent knowledge of both the leisure and gaming industry, Limbrick Limited is ideally positioned for the exciting opportunities which will be presented in a market that will expand as Government Policy is modified to deregulate the gaming industry. |
