Fife Leisure Park is a dramatic, 35 acre site adjacent to the M90, which forms part of the major expansion of East Dunfermline as part of what was originally one of the UK’s major inward investments from (at the time) Hyundai.
The high quality Leisure Park is set in formal landscaping, also providing car parking for over 1000 cars. Selected in a limited competition for their Concept Masterplan for the site, Limbrick Limited developed the scheme to Planning Approval stage. The Practice’s impressive track record in commercial leisure development and their Edinburgh presence clearly influenced Grosvenor’s decision to appoint them to take the project forward. The contract for the first phase of the development included a 10-screen Odeon Multiplex, McDonald’s and Pizza Hut restaurants, estate infrastructure, car parking and landscaping and was completed in June 2000.
The Odeon Multiplex, as the anchor tenant, forms the focal point of the development and is the centre-piece for the radiating site plan layout. The elevational design gives the building a distinctive and dominant appearance. Masonry features rise up above the eaves line and are capped with projecting coping stones, while white twin towers, combined with exposed feature steelwork, create drama and definition at the glazed entrance. Completing their 15th Odeon Multiplex in the preceding 4 years, Limbrick Limited were also the interior designers and fit-out architects for the Odeon.
The next phase of the development was a 30,000sq ft Bannatyne Health and Fitness Club which, along with other leisure and restaurant units planned for either side of the Odeon, will create a shallow crescent shielding the site from the M90 motorway. The design aim is to create a series of linked facades to form a continuous frontage to the development. Each building will be allowed to express itself individually, but there will be a common language of materials, finishes and feature elements, which will be adapted to suit each design. Fife Leisure Park is one of the largest Entertainment and Leisure Centres in Scotland. |
